  Bohol Map

Bohol, Philippines

Bohol is an island province of the Philippines located in the Central Visayas region. Its capital is Tagbilaran City. It is the 10th largest island in the country, securely nestled in the heart of the Visayas. To the west of Bohol is Cebu, to the northeast is the island of Leyte and to the south, across the Bohol Sea is Mindanao. Bohol is derived from the word Bo-ho or Bo-ol. The island was the seat of the first international treaty of peace and unity.

LAND TOURS

Bohol is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful white beaches and resorts became major tourist attractions. It is the most famous and prime tourist destination in the Philippines. This is because the Chocolate Hills are incomparable and is one of the country's most spectacular sceneries and the Philippine Tarsier, considered by some to be the smallest primate, is indigenous to the island. That’s why they are the No. 1 tourist spots. Climate is generally dry, with maximum rainfall between the months of June and October. The interior is cooler than the coast.

Boholanos, indigenous people, refer to their island homeland as the 'Republic of Bohol' with both conviction and pride. A narrow strait separates the island of Cebu and Bohol and both share a common language, but the Boholanos retain a conscious distinction from the Cebuanos. The main language spoken in Bohol is Boholano. Like Cebuano, its close neighbour, Boholano is a Visayan speech variety. Tagalog, Chinese, and English are also spoken by many of the residents. The people of Bohol are said to be the descendants of the last group of inhabitants who settled in the Philippines called pintados or “tattooed ones.” Boholanos had already a culture of their own as evidence by the artifacts dug at Mansasa, Tagbilaran, and in Dauis and Panglao.
